About Weiwei
The artist, Wei Wei, is a graduate of the Oil Painting Department of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
He grew up in the local mining areas. His childhood was often spent in the mountains full of wildlife and plants, and this has deeply imprinted his work with traces of wildlife intertwined with unseen dangers, bearing witness to his unique growth experience.
Despite the formal training at the Academy of Fine Arts, Wei Wei has always maintained his personal style in his works, showing his passion for artistic freedom.
Wei Wei's paintings offer a deep exploration of his memory: picking fern roots, drinking nectar from natural straws, and swimming in the river near his hometown. However, beneath these seemingly peaceful scenes, he also faces the inherent risks of his childhood environment. In his paintings, you can experience the vivid moments of his childhood life, while also sensing the potential dangers behind these idyllic memories.
This style of painting is undoubtedly the artist's unconscious reaction to his living environment.
His art is an interesting blend of the beauty of nature. The vitality of life, and potential dangers, are interspersed with subtle humor. More importantly, it transforms the complexity of human emotions intervened in this environment.
